Hi Bri, I remember red gates on leyland green rd even though i can't remember them ever being closed, was there a public footpath that went up there past Quaker pit and through farmers field and come out onto winstanley rd, I thought there was as a youngster we used it or maybe we was trespassing, I know at back of Quaker to right was the old reservoir.

Red Gate was for access to what we called the top reservoir I don't think it was for public use ,quaker pit used it after the reservoir was drained,

Thanks bentlegs, I thought there was a public footpath up there as a youngster my mother sent me up there to Quaker pit to fill my barrow, it was a lot cheaper to buy coal there than the merchants.

Let's hope that it does not do like the Dentist's contract did, and drive increasing numbers of GPs out of the NHS provision.

I am amazed that my GP has not retired. I know how dissatisfied he is: it will not take much to push him.

Any rights you may have are going to be of scant benefit if you cannot get a GP, or have a hundred mile round trip to see one, as many now are experiencing with dentistry.

Whups unfortunately A pensioner from Haydock was found dead in his car been missing a few days. Condolences to his family. Questions now raised why it took so long to find his vehicle but when the description of the car is a silver Toyota Rav4 with tinted windows but no registration given Most people would just walk past and not register anything amiss

Ashton town centre allegedly covered by CCTV but he was discovered by two people walking by.

Not in favour of town centre cctv, since it was all set up police hardly make a presence, if anything happens police refer to cctv hardly a deterrent for antisocialists and would be thieves, this town needs a good shake up, where I live cars are being robbed in streets every night and the crime gets reported immediately but not seen any police yet.

Whupsy you are always asking people did THEY attend funerals but you say you did not attend because have no affinity to the person being buried, You post about people passing away then ask what they died of? Yes I drive but why would I need to attend any funeral at DG? It is nearly 48 years ago since I left DG and most people I knew left DG many years ago or are under the sod already. I still have relations in Garswood but the last two funerals one was at Wigan Crem and the other was at Rainford. In a long while from now I hope if I am still alive if not its written in her will my wife has requested that she is buried at Holy Trinity because that was the family church and a lot of her relations are buried there

Are you related to Les Cunliffe, from Ashton Cross? (or are you referring to Rigby's, which wasn't at Ashton Cross?)
